Cypress Texas Auto Glass Repair

Is it time to repair or replace your windshield?

As we all know from living in and around Houston cracked auto glass is a very common occurrence. Many of us live outside of the city, for example in Northwest Houston if you live in Cypress, Texas, or even Jersey Village, Katy or Tomball you’re still having to hop on a major interstate, and if you decide not to take the highway you then have to take back roads with loose gravel. No matter what, there’s always a chance you’ll get a chipped or cracked windshield.

Some good news, you can usually salvage the cost by repairing smaller chips or cracks before they get to big. This process involves a professional sealing the damaged area to prevent further spread.

However, we all know what it is like to have that tiny chip suddenly come to life. How many of you have been sitting in your car on a cold day, you turn up the heat to get nice and warm and the next thing you know is that once small chip begins growing and taking a life form of its own across your windshield.

Regardless of how the crack formed there are a few things to know regarding driver safety and windshields. Here are a few things to know regarding when it’s time to replace your windshield.

It is time to replace your windshield if…

  • the crack or chip is located directly in the driver’s line of sight.
  • the windshield possesses three or more cracks/chips in the glass.
  • the crack is in the corner of the windshield...or on the edge
  • your windshield is old, and it is covered with tiny chips.

A vehicle’s windshield is an important structural element, and therefore you must take the time to repair chips before they evolve.

An automobile chip repair works by inserting a specialized resin in the area that is chipped. Sometimes holes may be drilled at the ends of the crack to assist with spill prevention; the holes are not drilled all the way through the glass but are drilled enough to assist in filling the area around the chip to prevent further spread.

If you do end up getting a chip, have it repaired before you must repair the entire windshield. If your windshield falls into one of the four bullet points listed in this article, contact us today. We serve Cypress Texas auto glass, Tomball,
Katy and other surrounding areas throughout Houston.
